So now we\u2019ll watch out for you.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"522\" data-end=\"770\">A few weeks later, my old landlady\u2014who had once sold the building\u2014called out of the blue. The new owners had backed out, and she was offering me my former flat again. Same rent. No hidden fees. No catch. I moved back in, overwhelmed with gratitude.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"772\" data-end=\"905\">Taped to the door was an envelope from Nia. Inside was a prepaid grocery card and another note:<br data-start=\"867\" data-end=\"870\" \/><strong data-start=\"870\" data-end=\"905\">\u201cSome things come back to you.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"907\" data-end=\"1168\">I stayed. Got promoted at work. Finally signed up to lead those weekend writing workshops I\u2019d always dreamt of. One evening, a teenage student I\u2019d barely heard speak handed me a folded note after class.<br data-start=\"1109\" data-end=\"1112\" \/><strong data-start=\"1112\" data-end=\"1168\">\u201cI used to think nobody saw me.
