But what happens when one parent suddenly decides to prioritize their own needs and leaves the other to carry the entire load?
It\u2019s a reality many single parents silently endure.<\/p>\n

Recently, a reader named Rose shared her story with us. Her letter reveals how she responded to an audacious request from her ex-husband \u2014 and how she turned the tables in a way he never expected.<\/p>\n

Her letter reads:<\/strong><\/p>\n

My ex\u2011husband casually called me one afternoon and, without a hint of shame, asked if he could \u201cskip\u201d three months of child support.
Why?
Because he needed to \u201csave up for a summer trip\u201d with his new wife and their two kids.<\/p>\n

I remember staring at the phone, my heart thudding in my chest.
I didn\u2019t argue. I didn\u2019t yell. I simply said, \u201cOkay,\u201d and hung up.<\/p>\n

But inside, I was boiling.
It wasn\u2019t just about the money \u2014 it was about the principle.
Our daughter deserved better than to be treated like an obligation he could opt out of whenever it suited him.<\/p>\n

When the next visitation day came around, I didn\u2019t drive our daughter over to his place.
Instead, I drove up to his door with a large suitcase.<\/p>\n

He opened it with a smile, probably expecting toys or treats.
But the moment the zipper slid down and he saw what was inside \u2014 neatly folded clothes, school supplies, toiletries \u2014 his face drained of color.<\/p>\n

He blinked in confusion.
\u201cWhat\u2026 what is this?\u201d<\/p>\n

I smiled sweetly.
\u201cOh, I thought I\u2019d help you out. Since you want a break from supporting our child financially, I figured I\u2019d give you an opportunity to support her in a different way. She\u2019ll be living with you for the next sixteen weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n

His wife suddenly appeared in the doorway, frowning.
\u201cWhat\u2019s going on?\u201d<\/p>\n

I turned to her and explained calmly, \u201cIt\u2019s simple. Since he\u2019s taking a break from financially supporting our daughter, I thought it would be fair for me to take a break too. You\u2019ll be handling full\u2011time parenting for the next three months. I\u2019ve packed enough clothes and supplies for the first two weeks. After that\u2026 well, I\u2019m sure you can figure something out.\u201d<\/p>\n

My ex started to panic.
\u201cWait, hold on! We never agreed to this!\u201d<\/p>\n

I tilted my head, still smiling.
\u201cOh? I assumed you\u2019d be fine with it. I mean\u2026 it\u2019s just three months. What\u2019s the big deal?\u201d<\/p>\n

I let that sink in.
Then I delivered the final blow:<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, and one more thing \u2014 our daughter didn\u2019t feel like visiting Daddy today. She said she\u2019d rather stay with me this weekend. So I\u2019ll drop her off Monday morning\u2026 and then she\u2019s all yours for the full twelve weeks. Enjoy!\u201d<\/p>\n

The look on his face was priceless. His wife\u2019s jaw actually dropped.
And now? They can\u2019t stop calling and texting me, begging me to change my mind.<\/p>\n

But I\u2019m not answering.
I\u2019m standing my ground.
If he chose to prioritize his new family over his firstborn, then he should live with the consequences.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t make this decision in a vacuum \u2014 he did<\/strong>, the moment he decided that child support was optional.
Was I wrong for this? Maybe some will think so.
But as far as I\u2019m concerned, I was simply showing him what fairness really looks like.<\/p>\n
