I\u2019m Sienna, a 35-year-old stay-at-home mom. My husband, Cameron, manages a mid-sized tech company. He\u2019s spent the last decade clawing his way up the corporate ladder, one sleepless night and one sacrificed family dinner at a time. We have a 15-year-old son, Benjamin, whom I had while still in college.<\/p>\n

The early years were chaotic\u2014painful, exhausting, beautiful. And worth every second.<\/p>\n

I grabbed coats, threw everything into the car, called 911 on speaker, and peeled out of the driveway.<\/p>\n

My heart splintered.<\/p>\n

\u201cBen, that was dangerous,\u201d I whispered. \u201cYou could have hurt him. Yourself. Anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t want us to break,\u201d he said. \u201cHe used to laugh more. You used to smile more. We used to be\u2026 us.\u201d<\/p>\n

I reached across and squeezed his knee, tears blurring the road.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love him too,\u201d he said. \u201cBut I love you more.\u201d<\/p>\n

We found them 30 minutes later, their car half-buried in a snowdrift. Cameron was pale, shivering, wrapping Lucy\u2019s coat around her.<\/p>\n

\u201cSienna\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot now,\u201d I said. \u201cGet in.\u201d<\/p>\n

No anger. Just urgency.<\/p>\n

Back home, once they warmed up, Cameron followed me to the kitchen.<\/p>\n

And he did.<\/p>\n

Three months later, Cameron resigned quietly. He took a smaller, slower job. He started cooking dinner on Tuesdays\u2014disaster meals, usually burnt but made with effort. He became Benjamin\u2019s soccer coach\u2014despite zero knowledge of soccer. He comes home before dark now. He asks me how my day was. He listens.<\/p>\n
