My mom never liked my wife.<\/p>\n

She nodded, but the worry never left her face.<\/p>\n

Two years later, my mother passed away. When I went to her house to sort through her things, memories filled every room. I was already emotional when I bent down to look under her bed\u2014and froze.<\/p>\n

There, carefully wrapped in cloth, was my wife\u2019s old diary.<\/p>\n

It made no sense. Danika had always told me she lost it years ago in college. I picked it up slowly. The leather was worn, her initials still embossed on the front. My hands trembled as I opened it.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis threats scare me. I wish I had never gotten involved. I think someone\u2019s following me. I don\u2019t feel safe. I can\u2019t tell anyone. If this ever gets out, I don\u2019t know what will happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

I sat on the edge of my mother\u2019s bed, heart pounding. She had found this before our wedding. That was why she cried. She wasn\u2019t judging Danika. She was afraid for me.<\/p>\n

But she never told me. She carried it alone.<\/p>\n

That night at home, I placed the diary gently on the table.<\/p>\n

Within weeks, the truth unraveled. Vaughn had tried to track her through an old associate. That mistake led authorities straight to him. He was arrested on multiple charges\u2014fraud, blackmail, intimidation, stalking.<\/p>\n

Only then did I truly understand what my mother had lived with in silence.<\/p>\n
