I can\u2019t imagine ever using it again now that it\u2019s been sitting there.<\/p>\n

Every time I walk into the kitchen, that little butter dish taunts me. It\u2019s like a tiny health hazard wearing a glass dome. I grew up with everything refrigerated \u2014 even ketchup. After a long pause, Owen finally said, \u201cOkay. How about this: we keep a small amount out for easy spreading, and the rest stays in the fridge. If it gets too warm in here, we toss whatever\u2019s left and replace it. Deal?\u201d<\/p>\n

I blinked. That\u2026 actually sounded reasonable.<\/p>\n

Deal,\u201d I said, relieved.<\/p>\n

And for a little while, things felt smoother between us. Until his mom came to visit.<\/p>\n
