I\u00a0was 18\u00a0and had just moved to\u00a0NYC by\u00a0myself, trying to\u00a0adjust to\u00a0the lifestyle there (having come from a\u00a0small town in\u00a0the South). It\u00a0was my\u00a0first time using the train, and\u00a0I had no\u00a0idea how to\u00a0buy a\u00a0MetroCard.<\/p>\n
So\u00a0I\u2019m standing there at\u00a0the only working machine, with a\u00a0line of\u00a0people behind\u00a0me, trying to\u00a0buy a\u00a0card. I\u00a0was a\u00a0little frantic because\u00a0I knew people were waiting. People in\u00a0the line started yelling at\u00a0me\u00a0to\u00a0\u201cHurry\u00a0up!\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0\u201cWhat, are you dumb?\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0I\u00a0started to\u00a0get teary-eyed, which made me\u00a0even more frantic.<\/p>\n Then, this guy stepped out of\u00a0the line and told everyone to\u00a0chill out. He\u00a0came\u00a0up, showed me\u00a0step by\u00a0step what to\u00a0do, and paid for a\u00a012-ride card for\u00a0me. He\u00a0patted me\u00a0on\u00a0the back and told\u00a0me,\u00a0\u201cNext time someone yells at\u00a0you, yell back, and they\u2019ll leave you alone.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0In\u00a0that moment, I\u00a0didn\u2019t feel so\u00a0alone.<\/p>\n Without his kindness and guidance, I\u00a0probably wouldn\u2019t have stayed up\u00a0there and had all the great experiences I\u00a0did.\u00a0\u00a9\u00a0Wiffle_Snuff\u00a0\/ Reddit<\/p>\n Story 2:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n When I\u00a0was about 12\u00a0years old, I\u00a0went to\u00a0a\u00a0bookstore with my\u00a0cousins. We\u00a0were all getting stared down by\u00a0this old man, but after about 10\u00a0minutes of\u00a0him staring at\u00a0us, he\u00a0got up\u00a0from the bench and went inside the bookstore.<\/p>\n About five minutes later, he\u00a0came out with three gift cards. He\u00a0walked up\u00a0to\u00a0us with a\u00a0smile and said,\u00a0\u201cI\u00a0love seeing kids read,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0then handed each of\u00a0us a\u00a0$20 gift card. I\u00a0had never been so\u00a0shocked and touched.\u00a0\u00a9\u00a0GabeTheNerd\u00a0<\/strong>\/ Reddit<\/p>\n Story 3:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Story 4:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n A\u00a0few years back, I\u00a0ran out of\u00a0gas on\u00a0my\u00a0way home from work. He left, and car two showed up.<\/p>\n Car two\u2014I chatted with her for a\u00a0bit, but she said she couldn\u2019t really help me\u00a0out, which is\u00a0all good.<\/p>\n So\u00a0the third person to\u00a0stop was an\u00a0undercover officer. Really nice guy\u2014he helped me\u00a0push my\u00a0car towards the grass and brainstormed ideas for the situation because he\u00a0didn\u2019t want to\u00a0leave me\u00a0there.<\/p>\n Well, as\u00a0the cop and\u00a0I were talking, car number one pulls\u00a0up, gets out, and hands me\u00a0a\u00a0full 10-gallon gas can. I\u00a0profusely thanked the guy, even offered to\u00a0get his number so\u00a0I could pay him back. He\u00a0refused, just said it\u00a0was really no\u00a0problem. Story 5:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Story 6:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n It was Christmastime, and I worked in a toy store in a mall. A teenage girl came in wearing a T-shirt with the logo of my favorite video game on it. I complimented her shirt and asked her where she had gotten it because I had never been able to find that video game on a women\u2019s shirt\u2014only men\u2019s. She told me where she got it, and then she left.<\/p>\n I\u00a0went into the break room to\u00a0tell my\u00a0boyfriend to\u00a0buy it\u00a0for me\u00a0for Christmas, and when\u00a0I came out, she was waiting for\u00a0me. She handed me\u00a0a\u00a0bag and said,\u00a0\u201cMerry Christmas! I\u00a0hope\u00a0I got the size right,\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0then left.
