President Donald Trump misspoke when asked about President Joe Biden\u2019s cancer diagnosis on Monday, May 19.<\/p>\n

Following a ceremony in which he presented a Medal of Honor to the family of a fallen police officer, Trump took questions from the press, who asked about his reaction to Biden\u2019s \u201caggressive\u201d cancer diagnosis over the weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s very sad, actually,\u201d replied Trump, 78, before mislabeling the diagnosis. \u201cI\u2019m surprised that it wasn\u2019t notified a long time ago. Because to get to stage 9, it\u2019s a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Biden\u2019s spokesperson announced the new diagnosis in a statement on Sunday, May 18, revealing that the 82-year-old former president has stage 4 prostate cancer with a Gleason score of 9, which is related to how fast the cancer could spread.<\/p>\n

Stage 4 is the highest possible classification for cancer. Dr. Christopher Wee, a genitourinary medical oncologist with the Cleveland Clinic, told PEOPLE that Biden\u2019s cancer is a stage 4 \u201cbecause it has spread outside of the prostate.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gleason scores, on the other hand, are specific to prostate cancer and range from 6 to 10. \u201cThe higher the number, the more abnormal the cells are,\u201d Dr. Wee explained to PEOPLE. \u201cAnd so when something is a Gleason 9 or a Gleason 10\u2026 generally speaking, people think that reflects a more aggressive behavior of the cancer.\u201d
\nAfter reiterating that he found Biden\u2019s prostate cancer diagnosis \u201csad\u201d in his remarks to the press on Monday, Trump shifted his focus to the former president\u2019s cognitive health.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are things going on that the public wasn\u2019t informed. And I think somebody is going to have to speak to his doctor,\u201d he continued. \u201cWhy wasn\u2019t the cognitive ability \u2014 why wasn\u2019t that discussed? I think the doctors said he\u2019s just fine, and it\u2019s turned out that\u2019s not so. It\u2019s very dangerous.\u201d<\/p>\n

Suggesting again that advanced cancer such as Biden\u2019s \u201ccan take years to get to this level of danger,\u201d Trump continued to posit that details of the former president\u2019s health were knowingly kept from the public while he was in office.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a very, very sad situation, and I feel very badly about it, and I think people should try and find out what happened,\u201d he concluded.
\nTrump is one of many Republicans calling for more details about Biden\u2019s health and accusing the previous administration of a cover-up.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the president\u2019s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., took to social media to call out former first lady Jill Biden, who sometimes goes by Dr. Biden because she has a doctorate in education.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I want to know is how did Dr. Jill Biden miss stage five metastatic cancer or is this yet another coverup???\u201d he wrote on X, also misclassifying the former president\u2019s cancer as stage 5, which does not exist.<\/p>\n
