{"id":8350,"date":"2021-03-26T07:19:56","date_gmt":"2021-03-26T07:19:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pni.net.pk\/en\/?p=8350"},"modified":"2021-03-26T07:20:38","modified_gmt":"2021-03-26T07:20:38","slug":"myanmar-beauty-queen-speaks-out-against-military-coup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pni.net.pk\/en\/latest-entertainment-news\/myanmar-beauty-queen-speaks-out-against-military-coup\/","title":{"rendered":"Myanmar beauty queen speaks out against military coup"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Bangkok-A commitment to \u201cworld peace\u201d might be a beauty pageant cliche, but as blood spills in the&nbsp;streets&nbsp;of Myanmar, Miss Grand&nbsp;International&nbsp;contestant Han Lay made a plea Thursday to end the violence in her homeland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Myanmar junta has unleashed deadly violence as it struggles to quell nationwide protests against the February 1 ouster and arrest of civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Han Lay, in Bangkok competing for the Miss Grand crown against 63 other contestants, hit out at the crackdown, in which more than 280 people have been killed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI want to say from here to the world: please support the Myanmar people,\u201d she told Thailand\u2019s Khaosod English news outlet. \u201cSo many people die in Myanmar by the guns of the military&#8230; Please save us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The psychology student said some of her peers had been detained since the coup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cStudents from the University of Yangon, my university, were also detained,\u201d she said on her Instagram page. \u201cIn a democracy, it is important that we can speak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our voices must be heard. But now we have no freedom in Myanmar. It is a human rights violation.
