\u201cThe recent resurgence in COVID cases reminds us that we must carry on the fight. Yet we remain convinced that winter cannot stop the arrival of spring and darkness can never shroud the light of dawn,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Besides, other countries, locally transmitted coronavirus cases are on the rise in China despite the authorities claiming success over the infection late last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Calling for strengthening the G20, Xi spelled several steps to overcome the economic crisis triggered by the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe first is to step up macro-economic policy coordination and jointly promote strong, sustainable, balanced and inclusive growth of the world economy,\u201d the Chinese president said, adding that the world is going through \u201cthe worst recession since the end of World War II.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe need to shift the driving forces and growth models of the global economy and improve its structure, so as to set the course for long-term, sound and steady development of the world economy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Xi urged the world community to \u201cabandon ideological prejudice\u201d and instead to \u201cjointly follow a path of peaceful coexistence, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Close North-South gap<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The leader of world’s second-largest economy said the international community must work to \u201cclose the divide between developed and developing countries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cToday, inequality continues to grow, the North-South gap remains to be bridged, and sustainable development faces severe challenges,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Advocating more space and resources for developing countries, Xi said: \u201cWe should recognize that with the growth of developing countries, global prosperity and stability will be put on a more solid footing and developed countries will stand to benefit from such growth.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n He called for a joint response to \u201cglobal challenges and create a better future for humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIn the era of economic globalization, public health emergencies like COVID-19 may very well recur, and global public health governance needs to be enhanced,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Urging support for multilateralism, Xi said: \u201cWe should stay committed to openness and inclusiveness instead of closeness and exclusion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cMultilateralism is about having international affairs addressed through consultation and the future of the world decided by everyone working together,\u201d he said while slamming what he called \u201cbuilding small circles or starting a new Cold War.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n Threats, sanctions will lead to dead end<\/p>\n\n\n\n Xi called out threats, intimidation, supply disruption and sanctions, saying: \u201cIt will only push the world into division and even confrontation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cWe cannot tackle common challenges in a divided world, and confrontation will lead us to a dead end.
