{"id":53019,"date":"2022-07-27T01:45:51","date_gmt":"2022-07-26T20:45:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pni.net.pk\/en\/?p=53019"},"modified":"2022-07-27T01:45:51","modified_gmt":"2022-07-26T20:45:51","slug":"apex-court-annuls-mazaris-ruling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pni.net.pk\/en\/pakistan-news\/apex-court-annuls-mazaris-ruling\/","title":{"rendered":"Apex court annuls Mazari\u2019s ruling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Islamabad, July 26, 2022 (Online): The Supreme Court of Pakistan null and void the Punjab Assembly deputy speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari\u2019s ruling over rejecting PML-Q votes and announced that Pervaiz Elahi is the Punjab Chief Minister.<\/p>\n<p>The verdict saw Hamza Shehbaz lose his status as the \u201ctrustee\u201d chief minister and his rival from PML-Q, Parvez Elahi, who had PTI\u2019s backing, will now take over the position.<\/p>\n<p>The PML-Q had filed a petition on Saturday against the ruling of the Punjab Deputy Speaker Dost Mazari that paved the way for Hamza Shahbaz to retain his post of the chief minister of the province.<\/p>\n<p>During the election, Mazari had decided against counting the votes of 10 PML-Q lawmakers, which were cast in Elahi\u2019s favour, citing a letter written by party President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain in which he had instructed them to vote for Hamza instead.<\/p>\n<p>The apex court\u2019s three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial, and comprising Justice Ahsan and Justice Munib Akhtar heard the case.
