{"id":5045,"date":"2021-01-22T06:10:20","date_gmt":"2021-01-22T06:10:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pni.net.pk\/en\/?p=5045"},"modified":"2021-01-22T06:10:22","modified_gmt":"2021-01-22T06:10:22","slug":"sc-issues-notices-in-nab-appeals-in-agha-siraj-assets-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pni.net.pk\/en\/pakistan-news\/sc-issues-notices-in-nab-appeals-in-agha-siraj-assets-case\/","title":{"rendered":"SC issues notices in NAB appeals in Agha Siraj assets case"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>ISLAMABAD &#8211; The Supreme Court of Pakistan yesterday issued notices to the respondents in the appeals of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) seeking cancellation of bails to Speaker Sindh Assembly\u00a0Agha\u00a0Siraj Khan Durrani and others in a corruption case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial conducted hearing of the appeals against Durrani\u2019s bail in the assets beyond means case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NAB alleged that Agha Siraj Durrani had accumulated assets worth Rs 1.6 billion along with other co-accused who are his family members. The special prosecutor general argued that Siraj Durrani and his family could not provide a satisfactory reply about their assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NAB had arrested Durrani in February, 2019, in Islamabad. It later filed a reference against him regarding accumulation of assets worth over Rs1.61 billion through illegal means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sindh High Court had granted bail on December 13, 2019 to Pakistan People\u2019s Party (PPP) leader and Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani, Agha Masihuddin, Tufail Ahmed, Mitha Khan, Shamshad Khatoon, Aslam Parvez, Zulfiqar Ali, Gulzar Ahmed and Shakeel Ahmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the NAB, three separate inquiries are against the PPP leader: the first inquiry pertains to an allegation of accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income by Durrani; the second relates to 352 illegal appointments made by him; and the third pertains to embezzlement of funds for the construction of the MPAs Hostel and construction of the new Sindh Assembly building, as well as in the appointment of project directors for the said projects.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD &#8211; The Supreme Court of Pakistan yesterday issued notices to the respondents in the appeals of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) seeking cancellation of bails to Speaker Sindh Assembly\u00a0Agha\u00a0Siraj Khan Durrani and others in a corruption case.
