{"id":4971,"date":"2021-01-20T06:05:20","date_gmt":"2021-01-20T06:05:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pni.net.pk\/en\/?p=4971"},"modified":"2021-01-20T06:05:43","modified_gmt":"2021-01-20T06:05:43","slug":"ihc-rejects-zardaris-plea-seeking-to-stop-trials-in-accountability-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pni.net.pk\/en\/pakistan-news\/ihc-rejects-zardaris-plea-seeking-to-stop-trials-in-accountability-court\/","title":{"rendered":"IHC rejects Zardari\u2019s plea seeking to stop trials in Accountability Court"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>ISLAMABAD\u00a0\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday rejected a plea of former president Asif Ali Zardari seeking orders for\u00a0accountability\u00a0court to stop trials against him in fake accounts references.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court also clubbed Zardari\u2019s petition challenging the NAB jurisdiction in Park Lane reference with the identical cases of Bilal Sheikh and Nusratullah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A division bench comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri conducted hearing on petition of PPP\u2019s Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the course of proceeding, Zardari\u2019s lawyer Farouk H. Naek prayed the court to order the accountability court to stop the trial and record evidence against his client till the decision of this court. He further pleaded that petitions were also pending before the Supreme Court (SC) seeking to shift Zardari\u2019s cases to Sindh province. The court rejected the request of Zardari\u2019s lawyer. Justice Farooq remarked that let the trial court record the evidence, adding that NAB was not going to conclude trial within month.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deputy Prosecutor General NAB Sardar Muzaffar Abbasi said that the prosecution had recorded the statements of ten witnesses in one case before the trial court judge but the defence lawyer could not conduct cross-examination of them. He prayed the court to also fix the Bilal Sheikh and Brigadier (reted) Nusratullah\u2019s cases with this identical matter.
