{"id":30981,"date":"2021-12-21T13:30:02","date_gmt":"2021-12-21T08:30:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pni.net.pk\/en\/?p=30981"},"modified":"2021-12-21T12:46:09","modified_gmt":"2021-12-21T07:46:09","slug":"renowned-hematologist-dr-tahir-shamsi-dies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pni.net.pk\/en\/pakistan-news\/renowned-hematologist-dr-tahir-shamsi-dies\/","title":{"rendered":"Renowned hematologist Dr Tahir Shamsi dies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD, Dec 21 (APP):Country\u2019s renowned hematologist  Dr Tahir Shamsi has passed away in Karachi on early Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>According to details, Dr Shamsi was admitted to the city\u2019s private medical facility, last week after he suffered brain hemorrhage.<\/p>\n<p>He underwent surgery but his condition remained critical and was on the ventilator, according to doctors, private channels reported.<\/p>\n<p>The renowned hematologist breathed his last on Tuesday, confirmed the hospital administration.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Shamsi is credited with introducing bone-marrow transplant in Pakistan in 1996. So far, he performed 650 bone-marrow transplants and wrote over 100 research articles.<\/p>\n<p>In 2011, Dr Shamsi established the National Institute for Blood Disease for the treatment of blood-related diseases.
