{"id":25047,"date":"2021-11-02T03:30:21","date_gmt":"2021-11-01T22:30:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pni.net.pk\/en\/?p=25047"},"modified":"2021-11-02T01:07:47","modified_gmt":"2021-11-01T20:07:47","slug":"foreign-secretary-australian-envoy-discuss-situation-in-afghanistan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pni.net.pk\/en\/pakistan-news\/foreign-secretary-australian-envoy-discuss-situation-in-afghanistan\/","title":{"rendered":"Foreign Secretary, Australian envoy discuss situation in Afghanistan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD, Nov 1 (APP):Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood here on Monday met with Special Representative of Australia on Afghanistan Daniel Sloper and shared Pakistan\u2019s perspective on the latest developments in Afghanistan and the way forward.<\/p>\n<p>Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood highlighting that the latest situation provided an opportunity to end the 40-year long conflict in Afghanistan, underscored the importance of international community\u2019s sustained engagement to help promote the shared objectives of a peaceful, stable, sovereign and prosperous Afghanistan. While noting that it was encouraging to see the international community constructively engaging with Afghanistan, he also cautioned against the forces that could play the role of \u2018spoilers\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The Foreign Secretary underscored the urgent humanitarian and economic challenges in Afghanistan and stressed the need for immediate steps to alleviate the sufferings of the Afghan people. The release of Afghanistan\u2019s financial assets was another step that would be helpful in this regard, he noted.<\/p>\n<p>The Foreign Secretary highlighted the steps taken by Pakistan to provide humanitarian assistance, promote bilateral trade and economic cooperation, regulate cross-border movement of people, foster further coordination among Afghanistan\u2019s neighbours and advance the regional connectivity projects.<\/p>\n<p>Special Representative Daniel Sloper thanked the Government of Pakistan for the assistance extended to Australia and the international community in the evacuation of the diplomatic personnel and others from Afghanistan.
