{"id":18175,"date":"2021-09-09T00:30:26","date_gmt":"2021-09-08T19:30:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pni.net.pk\/en\/?p=18175"},"modified":"2021-09-08T21:42:26","modified_gmt":"2021-09-08T16:42:26","slug":"kmc-decides-to-collect-fire-conservancy-taxes-through-ke-electricity-bills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pni.net.pk\/en\/regional-news-pakistan\/kmc-decides-to-collect-fire-conservancy-taxes-through-ke-electricity-bills\/","title":{"rendered":"KMC decides to collect fire, conservancy taxes through KE electricity bills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>KARACHI, Sep 08 (APP):Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday presiding over a joint meeting of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and K-Electric decided to evolve a mechanism to collect two of the KMC taxes through electricity bills so that recovery could be ensured.<\/p>\n<p>Administrator KMC Murtaza Wahab proposed that the KE may collect Rs 100 to Rs 200 as Fire Tax and Conservancy Taxe from 2.5 million consumers through its electricity bills every month which would help the corporation to generate around Rs 9 billion annually. <\/p>\n<p>The meeting was attended by Minister Energy Imtiaz Shaikh, Administrator KMC Murtaza Wahab, PSCM Sajid Jamal Abro, Secretary Energy Abu Bakar, CEO KE Monis Alvi, Director KE Haris Jamil and other concerned.<br \/>\nMurtaza briefed to the chief minister said that the KMC has 13 taxes to collect from the people of the city living in KMC limits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOut of 13 taxes, the K-Electric may collect only two taxes Fire Tax and Conservancy tax through its bills,\u201d he said and disclosed that the KMC hardly collected Rs 220 million annually from both the taxes. <\/p>\n<p>The chief minister said that he was working to strengthen the local bodies of Karachi financially stable so that they could serve the citizens from their own resources. \u201cThe KMC used to be a well-off organization but from last one decade it has crippled financially,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>KE chief Moonis Alvi said that they have no objection to collect the taxes on behalf of the KMC but he would have to seek permission from the concerned authority.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KARACHI, Sep 08 (APP):Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday presiding over a joint meeting of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and K-Electric decided to evolve a mechanism to collect two of the KMC taxes through electricity bills so that recovery could be ensured.
