data-end=\"549\"><strong data-start=\"299\" data-end=\"318\">UNITED NATIONS:<\/strong> Pakistan told the UN Security Council Friday that the integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a Kurdish-led military alliance, into Syria\u2019s state structures was a critical step toward peace and stability in the country.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"551\" data-end=\"881\">\u201cAfter years of conflict, fragmentation and humanitarian emergency in the country, there is now a genuine opportunity to focus on stabilization, recovery and return to normalcy,\u201d Ambassador Usman Jadoon, deputy permanent representative of Pakistan to the UN, said at a briefing on political and humanitarian developments in Syria.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"883\" data-end=\"988\">He said that the SDF\u2019s move represented continued consolidation of the Syrian State and its institutions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"990\" data-end=\"1098\">Syria emerged from a 14-year civil war that ended the al Assad regime\u2019s half-century reign in December 2024.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1100\" data-end=\"1390\">\u201cWe are heartened to witness the significant political transition continuing to broaden participation, strengthen national cohesion and respond to the aspirations of the Syrian people,\u201d the Pakistani envoy noted, saying that continued consolidation of the Syrian State and its institutions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1392\" data-end=\"1518\">\u201cUltimately, sustainable stability can only emerge from a peaceful, inclusive, Syrian-owned and Syrian-led political process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1520\" data-end=\"1737\">The easing of economic restrictions on Syria, he said, has created greater space for economic recovery and international reintegration, with increasing cooperation and investment providing further reason for optimism.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1739\" data-end=\"1966\">\u201cThe measure of success, however, will be whether these developments translate into economic activity, accelerate reconstruction and bring tangible improvements to the lives of people \u2013 all of which is on a positive trajectory.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1968\" data-end=\"2090\">At the same time, Ambassador Jadoon said Da\u2019esh and Foreign Terrorist Fighters continue to pose a serious threat to Syria.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2092\" data-end=\"2355\">\u201cCoordinated counter-terrorism efforts remain essential to prevent its resurgence and preserve Syria\u2019s hard-won stability,\u201d he said, stressing that the difficult legacy of the Syrian civil war be addressed through transitional justice pursued fairly, impartially.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2357\" data-end=\"2479\">The Pakistani envoy commended Syria\u2019s leadership for their wisdom in keeping the country out of a wider regional conflict.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2481\" data-end=\"2757\">In this regard, Ambassador Jadoon strongly condemned the Israeli attack on Abu al-Duhur Airbase in violation of international law, saying respect for the 1974 Disengagement Agreement must be ensured, alongside the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from all occupied areas.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2759\" data-end=\"3009\">\u201cThese are essential steps to prevent further escalation and safeguard regional peace and stability,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cWe also reiterate that the Syrian Golan is an occupied Syrian territory, as affirmed by Security Council Resolutions 338 and 497.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3011\" data-end=\"3396\">Opening the debate, UN Special Envoy Claudio Cardone said, \u201cThe success of the political transition will ultimately be measured by whether all Syrians feel represented in State institutions and able to participate meaningfully in shaping their country\u2019s future.\u201d That, he said, was a key message from Secretary-General Antonio Guterres\u2019 visit with President Ahmed al-Sharaa last month.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3398\" data-end=\"3580\">\u201cGreater international support is essential to meet urgent humanitarian, recovery and development needs and create conditions for safe, dignified and voluntary returns,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3582\" data-end=\"3855\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">In this context, Cardone welcomed that the United States rescinded Syria\u2019s designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism, noting that while the International Monetary Fund (IMF) recently projected double-digit growth in 2026, widespread poverty and renewed
