MIRPUR, Dec 19 (APP): A high-level delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), led by Prof. Raja Zafar Khan, submitted a memorandum to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street, London, seeking his intervention in the case of jailed Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik.<\/p>\n
The memorandum highlighted what it described as the \u201cinhuman treatment\u201d and \u201cpolitically motivated charges\u201d against Malik, who has been imprisoned by India for nearly seven years. It stated that Malik has been denied basic healthcare and a fair judicial process, raising serious concerns about his health and safety.<\/p>\n
The delegation included JKLF Central Chief Organizer Sabir Gul, Secretary of the Diplomatic Bureau Mahmood Hussain, and Media Manager Mahmood Faiz, a JKLF (Y) chief spokesman said on Friday.<\/p>\n
In a detailed statement issued by the party\u2019s central information office, the spokesman said the memorandum strongly condemned what it termed India\u2019s use of courts to target Yasin Malik, describing him as a peaceful pro-freedom leader. It appealed to Prime Minister Starmer to play a role in resolving the Kashmir dispute and to help save Malik\u2019s life.<\/p>\n
The memorandum drew attention to the death penalty threat Malik faces despite already serving a life sentence, calling the move a \u201cpolitical vendetta.\u201d JKLF leaders stressed that Malik\u2019s case symbolizes what they described as India\u2019s broader crackdown on dissent in Indian-occupied Kashmir.<\/p>\n
In a separate statement, the JKLF welcomed a party unification meeting held on December 14 in Birmingham, United Kingdom, where founding members pledged to strengthen unity within the party and intensify efforts for Malik\u2019s release. The party also announced plans to hold a protest on February 11 to mark the martyrdom anniversary of freedom fighter Muhammad Maqbool Butt.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, JKLF spokesman Muhammad Rafiq Dar attended a memorial event for Muslim Conference leader Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas, where he called for Azad Jammu and Kashmir to be developed as a \u201ctrue base camp\u201d for the freedom movement. He emphasized the need for unity around a common national Kashmir policy and for highlighting what he described as India\u2019s oppression in Indian-occupied Kashmir.<\/p>\n
The JKLF\u2019s diplomatic outreach comes amid increased international attention to India\u2019s human rights record in Kashmir.
