{"id":123466,"date":"2025-12-16T11:57:56","date_gmt":"2025-12-16T06:57:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pni.net.pk\/en\/?p=123466"},"modified":"2025-12-25T09:21:57","modified_gmt":"2025-12-25T04:21:57","slug":"researchers-develop-eco-friendly-method-to-recycle-used-tires-in-concrete","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pni.net.pk\/en\/climate-environment-news\/researchers-develop-eco-friendly-method-to-recycle-used-tires-in-concrete\/","title":{"rendered":"Researchers Develop Eco-Friendly Method to Recycle Used Tires in Concrete"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"239\" data-end=\"507\"><strong data-start=\"239\" data-end=\"272\">MOSCOW, Dec 16 (Sputnik\/APP):<\/strong> Researchers have identified a promising and environmentally friendly method to recycle used tires by incorporating their components directly into concrete, a solution that not only enhances material performance but also reduces waste.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"509\" data-end=\"735\">The research was conducted by a team from <strong data-start=\"551\" data-end=\"592\">Don State Technical University (DSTU)<\/strong> in collaboration with scientists from <strong data-start=\"631\" data-end=\"657\">Azerbaijan and T\u00fcrkiye<\/strong>, offering an innovative alternative to conventional tire recycling practices.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"737\" data-end=\"1131\">According to the <strong data-start=\"754\" data-end=\"788\">Russian Environmental Operator<\/strong>, only <strong data-start=\"795\" data-end=\"811\">5\u201310 percent<\/strong> of materials recovered from recycled tires can currently be reused in the production of new tires. While waste rubber is often repurposed for plumbing products, flooring materials, drainage components, or asphalt mixtures, DSTU experts note that manufacturing these products is typically <strong data-start=\"1100\" data-end=\"1130\">labor-intensive and costly<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1133\" data-end=\"1323\">To address these challenges, the international research team proposed using <strong data-start=\"1209\" data-end=\"1246\">rubber particles and steel fibers<\/strong> extracted from worn tires as components in <strong data-start=\"1290\" data-end=\"1322\">functional concrete mixtures<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1325\" data-end=\"1679\"><strong data-start=\"1325\" data-end=\"1344\">Sergey Stelmakh<\/strong>, head of the Department of <em data-start=\"1372\" data-end=\"1421\">Construction of Unique Buildings and Structures<\/em> at DSTU, explained that concrete strength increases when <strong data-start=\"1479\" data-end=\"1573\">carefully measured amounts of rubber filler particles and small quantities of steel fibers<\/strong> are added. When rationally dosed, these additives can enhance concrete strength by <strong data-start=\"1657\" data-end=\"1678\">up to six percent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1681\" data-end=\"1928\">The improvement, he noted, is primarily due to the <strong data-start=\"1732\" data-end=\"1770\">reinforcing effect of steel fibers<\/strong>, which help strengthen the concrete matrix.
