The Aga Khan University Centre for Innovation in Medical Education (CIME) launched its
\nfirst-ever international conference, SIMPACT 2024, in Karachi, Pakistan, and Nairobi,
\nKenya. SIMPACT 2024 brings together a diverse array of simulation professionals, including
\ndoctors, nurses, educators, researchers, engineers, students, expert and industry leaders, to
\nrevolutionize healthcare education for a safer and more skilled future.<\/p>\n

\nThe conference, held from May 20 to 21, will serve as a dynamic platform fostering
\ncollaboration, innovation and education. With a hybrid format blending in-person events at
\nCIME in Karachi and Nairobi with virtual participation options, SIMPACT 2024 ensures
\nglobal accessibility and inclusivity, drawing attendees from around the world.<\/p>\n
Dr Michael Moneypenny, Regional Director of CIME East Africa, expressed his excitement
\nsaying, “As we embarked on this pioneering journey with SIMPACT 2024, we were thrilled
\nto bring together the brightest minds in healthcare education simulation. This inaugural
\nconference has marked a significant milestone for our region, and we were excited to explore
\nnew horizons and drive innovation that will transform the future of healthcare training and
\npractice.”<\/p>\n
The conference commenced with pre-conference hands-on workshops covering specialties
\nsuch as Interprofessional Simulation, Laparoscopic Skills, Obstetrics and Gynaecology,
\nPaediatrics, and Cardiology Management of Dermatological Disorders in Primary Care,
\nfacilitated by renowned experts. It also includes discussions around research and publication
\nessentials..<\/p>\n
Dr Sulaiman Shahabuddin, President and Vice-Chancellor of the Aga Khan University,
\nofficially opened SIMPACT 2024, praising the efforts of the CIME teams in organising this
\ngroundbreaking event. “SIMPACT embodies the essence of simulation-based education,
\noffering benefits such as enhanced patient safety, skill acquisition, team training, personalized
\nlearning, and fostering research and innovation. In the words of His Highness, The Aga
\nKhan, ‘We must look to the future, seeking always to think creatively, to innovate, and to
\nimprove.’ These sentiments resonate deeply with CIME\u2019s vision since its inception. With 14
\nworkshops, 93 abstract submissions, and keynote addresses from leading figures, SIMPACT
\nhas drawn over 300+ attendees, reinforcing the importance of simulation-based practice and
\ncharting a clear path forward.”<\/p>\n
Day one\u2019s highlights included the Joint Directors\u2019 Session titled \u2018Simulation 360\u2019
\ntranscending geographical boundaries with simultaneous sessions from Karachi and Nairobi.
\nBuilding on the success of the 2023 Healthcare Simulation Week, SIMPACT introduced a
\nhighlight titled \u201cEscape from Mars in 2087″. Designed by seasoned educators and technical
\nspecialists, this challenging environment puts healthcare professionals\u2019 skills to the test,
\nencouraging critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.<\/p>\n
Dr Faisal Ismail, Regional Director of CIME South Asia, remarked, “SIMPACT 2024 is not
\njust a conference; it’s a celebration of our collective commitment to excellence in simulation.
\nFor the first time in our region, we have created the first simulation network of the region \u2013
\nthe Network for Simulation in Pakistan (NSP) \u2013 where educators, practitioners, and
\ninnovators can collaborate and inspire each other. Together, we will push the boundaries of
\nwhat’s possible in healthcare and simulation-based education.”<\/p>\n
Day two promises even more excitement with the official unveiling of the Network for
\nSimulation in Pakistan (NSP), a groundbreaking initiative poised to revolutionize healthcare
\neducation in the region, panel discussion on, Building blocks for successful simulation
\nprogrammes in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), and an Abstract Showcase
\nrecognizing scholarly endeavours. The day will conclude with an award ceremony
\nacknowledging the contributions of participants and the CIME team.<\/p>\n
SIMPACT 2024 is more than just a conference; it\u2019s a catalyst for transformation in healthcare
